Why is Moog's latest release so impressive and what does this mean to the world of synths?

Moog has unveiled the Moog One, its first new polyphonic synthesizer in 35 years. It’s “a tri-timbral, polyphonic, analog dream-synth,” according to a press release, with retail prices starting at $5,999 for the eight-voice configuration. The company has shared a short film featuring Ryuichi Sakamoto, Mark Ronson, Dev Hynes (aka Blood Orange), Suzanne Ciani, Robert Glasper, Mike Dean, and more. Mark Mothersbaugh scored the short, which is modeled after a vintage promotional Polymoog film. Check it out below.

The Moog One’s technical specs include “3 newly-designed dual-output analog VCOs with ring mod and FM, 2 independent analog filters, a dual source analog noise generator, analog mixer with external audio input, 4 LFOs, and 3 envelope generators.” Moog has also re-launched its website, which now features a live stream of the Moog factory every day during normal business hours.
